Get your lawn ready for the fall chill and winter freeze! Stay on top of your lawn care to-dos to ensure a healthy lawn all year long.
1. Edge Flower Beds
While your soil is warm, add decorative edging and refine the borders of your flower beds. Doing so before the first freeze will help you avoid damage to fragile new seedlings.
2. Fertilize Warm-Season Grasses
Maintain your lawn’s health by fertilizing in late summer. A robust feeding for warm-season lawns will result in deep root growth. On the other hand, cool-season lawns should be fertilized in late fall — it will allow your lawn to grow more successfully when spring arrives.
3. Reseed Your Lawn
If your lawn is dry and brown from the summer heat, make plans to reseed your lawn. Late summer and early fall is the ideal time as the soil is still warm, which will allow the grass to take root and grow lush in the spring.
4. Keep Your Grass High
When mowing in the summer, mow as high as possible to help your grass establish deep roots and absorb more underground water. Wait until late fall to cut your grass shorter to reduce the risk of damage during winter.
