Take care of your lawn and landscape now to ensure a big green-up in the spring! Here are a few lawn care suggestions to follow this winter:
1. Use Salt as Directed to Avoid Lawn Damage
Many deicing salts are comprised of corrosive sodium chloride, also known as rock salt. When it comes in contact with your lawn, it can remove moisture and cause yellowing grass and root damage. This winter, consider shoveling the snow first and applying coarse sand for traction in order to reduce the amount of ice melting product needed. While this might sound simple, we understand that accidents happen, and your lawn still might become damaged over the winter. Luckily, we provide complete lawn services and seasonal maintenance to repair damaged lawns.
2. Avoid Walking on Frozen Grass
If you’re accustomed to walking across your lawn daily, be aware that you could cause serious damage to your grass. Walking across frozen grass blades can make them break, and they may not recover until next spring. If you need to walk on your grass or use your yard this winter, consider waiting until the sun is able to melt the frost or use a sprinkler to melt the frost. Want to know more about lawn care? 3. Care for Your Plants in the Winter
Have evergreens or boxwoods? Protect them from damage this winter by applying extra mulch around them to insulate moisture and project the roots. If you see snow or ice in the forecast, be sure to wrap your plants in burlap and twine to provide insulation and defense against the cold temperatures and to prevent bronzing of the leaves.
